33 years ago, the West Virginia Dance Company was founded with the distinct purpose of enriching lives through dance.  Today the WVDC continues performing through a blend of entertaining and thought-provoking modern works that generate enthusiasm in audiences of all ages.  Highly trained and seasoned professionals make up the Company, whose repertoire includes pieces that are influenced by West Virginia's rich cultural heritage.  The WVDC is the only professional touring dance company in the history of the state.  It has performed extensively in West Virginia as well as 14 other states and Brazil.  At the height of its touring season, an average of 50,000 students are reached through the art of dance.  Public, college and university performances are an important area of WVDC's touring seasons.  For many students, the WVDC is their first exposure to the arts.

It is the goal of the West Virginia Dance Company to empower students with the truly that they too are born with a great imagination that produces creativity that can be shaped into innovation.

Our Mission

It is the mission of the WVDC to provide projects and performances at a statewide level that will offer the best value and quality within the framework of West Virginia and 21st Century Learning Skills and multi-cultural perspectives.

Gerri Houlihan brings an American Masterpiece to WV
West Virginia Dance Company hosted master choreographer and teacher, Gerri Houlihan for a week in September.  Ms. Houlihan set her dance work, titled 4 x 4, on the WVDC dancers.  WVDC will perform 4 x 4throughout its upcoming season.  Her visit to Beckley was made possible through an American Masterpiece grant from the West Virginia Division of Culture and History.  For more information about Gerri Houlihan see her biography below.
